Custom WordPress development services for premium business websites
I provide custom WordPress development services for businesses that have outgrown a bought theme and a long list of plugins. I build premium WordPress websites on a theme written for your content, so pages load fast, your team can edit them without breaking the layout, and search engines can read them cleanly. You work directly with me, the developer who writes the code, from the first call to launch.
What’s included
- Custom WordPress theme development: block themes with theme.json, or classic PHP themes
- Custom Gutenberg blocks and block patterns, so editors build pages from approved sections
- Elementor builds with global styles, saved templates and custom widgets where needed
- WordPress website redesign with URLs, redirects and on-page SEO carried over
- Custom post types, taxonomies and fields for services, team, locations, listings or case studies
- Forms, CRM, email marketing and booking integrations connected to the tools you already use
- Technical SEO foundations: heading structure, schema markup, XML sitemap, good Core Web Vitals
- Launch on hosting you own, with staging, SSL, backups and an editing guide for your team
What custom WordPress development services include, and who they suit
Custom WordPress development services mean the site is built around your content and your business, not around a theme demo. Instead of a multipurpose theme that loads sliders, icon packs and dozens of layout options you never use, you get a theme that contains only what your pages need, plus editing tools shaped to how your team actually updates the site.
This suits service businesses, consultancies, B2B companies, clinics, schools and agencies that need a website that looks distinct, loads quickly on phones and can grow with new pages and sections. It also suits teams whose current WordPress site has become fragile: every plugin update breaks something, the page builder is slow, and nobody wants to touch the theme.
It is not the right fit if you need a simple one-page presence next week on a small budget. A well-chosen ready-made theme is often enough for that, and I will tell you so. If you are still deciding whether WordPress is the right platform at all, my comparison of WordPress vs a custom-coded website walks through the trade-offs.
Custom WordPress theme development: block themes, classic themes and Elementor
There are three sensible ways to build a custom WordPress site, and the right one depends on who will edit it and how often the layout changes.
A block theme keeps colors, typography and spacing in theme.json, with templates and patterns edited in the Site Editor. This is the direction WordPress core keeps moving in: WordPress 7.0 and 7.1 (released in August 2026) added more editor features, including responsive block styling. I write custom blocks registered through block.json and lock patterns where the design should not drift, so editors pick approved sections instead of nudging margins by hand.
A classic PHP theme with custom fields (Advanced Custom Fields or native meta boxes) still makes sense for structured content such as property listings, course catalogs or directories, where the editor fills in fields and the template controls the layout.
Elementor suits marketing teams who want to build and rearrange landing pages themselves. As an Elementor developer, I keep the build disciplined: global colors and fonts, a small set of saved templates, custom widgets written in PHP when a design needs something the default widgets cannot do, and unused features switched off so pages do not ship assets they never use.
- A common mistake I avoid: putting custom post types and shortcodes inside the theme, so switching themes later loses content. I keep that logic in a small companion plugin
- Builder pages nested five or six containers deep, which hurts Largest Contentful Paint and Interaction to Next Paint on mid-range phones
- Older custom blocks that reach into the editor's parent document and misbehave as the block editor moves to an iframed canvas
- Editor styles and scripts loaded on the front end of pages that never use them
WordPress website redesign without losing your rankings
A WordPress website redesign is where many sites lose search traffic, usually because URLs change without redirects, page titles get rewritten, or content that ranked is cut to fit a new layout. Before any design work, I crawl the current site, export every indexed URL with its title and main headings, and map each one to its new home.
On the new build I keep or improve titles, headings and internal links, add 301 redirects for anything that moves, and check Search Console after launch for 404 errors and indexing changes. My website redesign SEO checklist lists every step if you want to follow along. If search is a priority beyond the redesign itself, my WordPress SEO services cover keyword targeting, internal linking and technical fixes in more depth.
Why choose a freelance WordPress developer who is a PHP engineer
WordPress runs on PHP, and many WordPress problems are really PHP problems: a slow query inside a theme template, a plugin conflict that only shows up under load, a contact form that silently drops leads. My daily work is PHP 8 and Laravel, building back offices and business systems with MySQL, queues and APIs, so I read a theme or plugin the way I would read any application code.
If you plan to hire a WordPress developer in India through an agency, your brief often passes through an account manager to whoever is free that week. As a freelance WordPress developer, I am the person on the call and the person writing the code, so decisions and fixes do not get lost in handoffs. I work remotely with clients in different time zones and we agree on update times at the start.
I also do on-page SEO and keyword research, so the site is planned for search from the first sitemap rather than patched afterwards. My WordPress client work is private, so it is not in the public portfolio, but I can walk you through relevant builds on a call.
What affects WordPress website development cost and timeline
There is no honest single price for a custom WordPress website, because the cost follows the work. I give a fixed quote after a short call or a written brief, and the timeline comes with it as a dated plan. These are the things that move both:
- Unique templates, not page count: twenty service pages on one template take far less work than eight pages with eight different layouts
- Build approach: a block theme or a classic theme with custom fields takes more development time than a disciplined Elementor build, but usually runs lighter
- Content model: custom post types, filters, search and relationships between content types
- Integrations with CRM, booking, payment, ERP or membership systems, and how well their APIs are documented
- Redesign work: URL mapping, redirects and moving content from the old site
- Multilingual setup, accessibility targets, and how much content I write or rework
- Whether designs already exist: if you have Figma files, a Figma to WordPress conversion is a narrower and faster project
How the work runs
Discovery call and sitemap
We go through your goals, audience, current site and the pages you need. I come back with a sitemap, the content types, the build approach I recommend and a fixed quote.
Design direction
If you have a designer or design files, I review them early for build problems. If not, we agree on a visual direction and I design the key templates, starting with the home page and one inner page.
Theme and block development on staging
I build the theme on a staging site under version control, adding custom blocks, fields and integrations. You can open staging and review progress at any point.
Content, SEO and speed pass
Content goes in, then I check titles, headings, schema, image sizes, Core Web Vitals and accessibility basics such as contrast, focus states and alt text.
Launch and handover
I deploy to your hosting, set redirects, connect Search Console and analytics, and confirm backups run. You get a short guide showing how to edit each template.

Questions
How much does WordPress website development cost?
It depends on the number of unique templates, the build approach and the integrations, so I give a fixed quote after a short call or written brief. The quote lists exactly what is included, which makes it easy to compare with other offers. A five-page brochure site and a listing site with filters and search are very different jobs.
Custom theme, premium theme or page builder: which should I choose?
Choose a custom theme when speed, a distinct design and long-term maintenance matter most, a premium theme when budget and time are tight and the demo already fits your needs, and a page builder such as Elementor when your marketing team wants to build new layouts themselves. Many sites mix approaches, for example a custom theme with the builder enabled only for campaign pages.
Will I be able to edit the website myself?
Yes. Editors work with blocks, patterns or fields that match the design, so they can change text, images and sections without breaking the layout. I lock the parts of the design that should not move and give you a short guide for each template.
How long does a custom WordPress website take?
A focused business website usually takes a few weeks from approved design to launch, and larger sites with integrations or a redesign take longer. The most common delay is content, so I share a content checklist on day one. You get a dated plan with the quote.
Is WordPress secure enough for a business website?
Yes, when it is built and maintained properly. Most WordPress vulnerabilities are found in plugins and themes rather than in core, so I keep the plugin list short, sanitize and escape all custom code, and limit admin access. Updates and backups after launch can be handled through WordPress maintenance.
Do you provide hosting after launch?
I deploy to hosting that you own, so the account and billing stay in your name. I can recommend a host that suits your traffic and set up SSL, backups and a staging copy. After launch I can stay on for updates and changes, or hand everything over cleanly to your team.
Can you take over an existing WordPress site built by someone else?
Yes. I start with an audit of the theme, plugins, hosting and performance before changing anything, then give you a list of what to fix, what to replace and what to leave alone. Sometimes a targeted cleanup is enough and a full rebuild is not needed. If the site has been hacked, the cleanup comes first: see WordPress malware removal.
