Ways to work together

Hire a Laravel developer by the hour, by the project or by the month

Before you hire Laravel developer help, decide on the arrangement, because it matters as much as the skills: hourly for small jobs, a fixed scope for a defined feature, or a reserved block of hours each month for an ongoing product. I am a senior freelance Laravel developer in India, and you deal with me directly, with no account manager in between. This page explains how each option works, what a normal week looks like and how to check any developer before you commit.

What’s included

  • Hourly work for fixes, small features and code reviews
  • Fixed-scope projects with a written scope and a fixed quote
  • A part-time dedicated Laravel developer with reserved hours every month
  • Work in your Git repository, your issue tracker and your chat tool
  • Pull requests with a clear description and notes for reviewers
  • Regular written updates at times we agree at the start
  • Onboarding notes and setup documentation as I learn your codebase
  • A clean handover whenever the engagement ends

Hire Laravel developers directly, without an agency in between

Most pages where you hire Laravel developers are marketplaces or staffing agencies: you pick a profile, and someone you have never spoken to is assigned to your project. Hiring me works differently. The person on the first call is the person who reads your code, writes the pull requests and answers your messages.

This suits business owners with a live Laravel app that needs steady improvement, startups whose in-house team needs another senior pair of hands, and agencies that need Laravel capacity for a client project. It does not suit you if you need several developers working in parallel next month, or someone on call around the clock for operations. I am one engineer, and I would rather say that on the first call than after a contract is signed.

If you are still deciding what to build rather than how to staff it, start with my Laravel development services page, which covers the kinds of systems I build.

Hire Laravel developer time three ways: hourly, fixed scope or monthly

Pick the model that matches how certain your scope is. You can move between them later, and many clients start hourly, then switch to a monthly arrangement once they have seen the work.

  • Hourly. Best for bug fixes, small features, code reviews and investigations where nobody yet knows how deep the problem goes. You get a short log of what I did against each block of time.
  • Fixed scope. Best when the feature can be described in writing: a new module, an integration, a reporting screen. We agree the scope, the acceptance checks and the price before I start, and changes are quoted as additions rather than absorbed silently.
  • Part-time dedicated, billed monthly. Best for a product that needs continuous work. You reserve a set number of hours each month, I work from your backlog in priority order, and you get the same developer every week who already knows your codebase.

What a working week looks like with a remote Laravel developer

Hiring a remote Laravel developer only works when progress is visible without you having to chase it. This is the rhythm I use unless your team already has one, in which case I follow yours:

  • Start of the week: we agree the priorities in your tracker (Jira, Trello, ClickUp, GitHub Issues or a shared document), each with a clear definition of done.
  • During the week: one branch per task, small commits, and a pull request that explains what changed, why, and how to test it. Database migrations are written so they can be rolled back.
  • On staging: finished work goes to a staging server first, so you or your testers can click through it with real examples.
  • Updates: a short written update at the times we agreed. I work remotely with clients in different time zones and we agree on update times at the start.
  • End of the week: a quick summary of what shipped, what is blocked and what is next, plus hours used if you are on hourly or monthly terms.

Questions to ask any Laravel developer before you hire

A portfolio and a polished profile tell you little. A few technical questions tell you a lot, even if you are not technical yourself, because a strong developer answers them plainly and specifically. Ask these of me or of anyone else. There is a longer checklist in how to hire a Laravel developer.

  • How would you stop a queued payment job from running twice? Listen for idempotency, unique job IDs or ShouldBeUnique, and a unique constraint in the database.
  • How do you add a column to a table with millions of rows in production? A good answer asks whether the change will lock the table (MySQL 8 adds many columns instantly, but not every change), then mentions testing on a copy of the data and running it outside peak hours.
  • How do you find a slow page? Expect query logging, N+1 detection, EXPLAIN on the slow query and indexes, not just more server power.
  • How do you deploy, and how do you roll back? Look for a repeatable process, queue workers restarted after deploy, and a plan for a bad release.
  • Can I see a pull request you wrote? Real work shows how someone explains changes to the next person.
  • What happens to my project if you are unavailable? The answer should involve access, documentation and handover, not reassurance.

Freelance Laravel developer or agency: an honest comparison

A freelance Laravel developer gives you direct communication, one person who carries the whole picture of your codebase, and no project management layer to pay for. An agency gives you more people, more roles such as design and QA, and cover when someone is away. Neither is better in general; it depends on the size and shape of your work. I go through the trade-offs in more detail in freelancer vs agency.

The real risk with any Laravel freelancer is being a single point of failure, so I remove it on purpose. Your company owns the repository and the server accounts from day one. I keep a README with local setup, environment variables, queue and cron configuration, and the reasons behind unusual decisions. If I am ever unavailable or we stop working together, another Laravel developer can pick the project up from that documentation.

Agencies can hire me too. If you need a developer who works under your brand on client projects, see white-label development.

Hire Laravel developers in India: what you should check

Many companies hire Laravel developers in India for the depth of PHP experience and the cost difference, but the rate is the least interesting part of the decision. Check how the developer communicates in writing, whether they will work in your repository rather than their own, and whether they can explain past work in technical detail.

Here is mine. I was a core developer and team lead on a Laravel brokerage risk platform, leading one to two developers through task breakdown, estimates and code review. On a Laravel 12 export ERP I was technical lead and reviewed a junior developer's pull requests. On an AI invoice capture project I worked as the dedicated developer across four businesses' systems for four months. If you prefer a marketplace for payment protection, you can also hire me through Fiverr. If your business is in Gujarat and you would rather meet in person, see the page for a web developer in Ahmedabad.

How the work runs

  1. Intro call or written message

Tell me about the app, the team and what needs doing first. I ask about the Laravel and PHP versions, hosting and how work is reviewed today.

  2. Choose the engagement model

We pick hourly, fixed scope or part-time dedicated, agree update times and put it in writing, including NDA and code ownership terms if you need them.

  3. Access and onboarding

You give me repository, staging and tracker access. I set the project up locally and write onboarding notes as I go, which become documentation you keep.

  4. A small first task

We begin with a real, contained task from your backlog. It shows you how I write code and communicate before you commit to anything larger.

  5. Steady rhythm and review

Work continues in the agreed rhythm, with a regular check on whether the model still fits. If it no longer does, we change it or I hand over cleanly.

Questions

  • How much does it cost to hire a Laravel developer?

It depends on the engagement model, how clear the scope is and how many hours a month you need. I do not publish rates; after a short call or a written brief you get either an hourly rate, a fixed quote for a defined scope, or a monthly figure for reserved hours.

  • What is a typical Laravel developer hourly rate in India?

Rates in India vary widely with seniority and with whether you hire a freelancer directly or through an agency that adds its margin. Compare what the hour buys rather than the number alone: a senior developer who fixes the cause in two hours is cheaper than a junior who patches symptoms for ten. I quote my rate once I understand the work.

  • Can I hire you as a full-time dedicated Laravel developer?

My dedicated arrangement is part-time: a reserved block of hours each month rather than a full-time seat. That suits most growing products, which need steady progress more than forty hours a week. If your project genuinely needs a full-time engineer, I will tell you so on the first call.

  • What happens if you get sick or become unavailable?

Your project does not depend on my laptop. You own the repository and server accounts from day one, and I keep setup and deployment documentation current, so another developer can continue. For planned time off, you hear about it well in advance.

  • Do you sign an NDA, and who owns the code?

Yes, I sign an NDA before you share confidential details. All code is written in your repository and belongs to you once the work is paid for.

  • How can I check your skills before hiring?

Ask me the vetting questions above, read the code patterns in my case studies, and start with a small, real task from your backlog. Seeing how someone handles your actual codebase tells you more than any test project.

  • Do you work with agencies as a white-label Laravel developer?

Yes. I can work under your agency's name, in your tools and to your coding standards, with your client never needing to know a freelancer was involved.

  • Is a freelance Laravel developer safe for a business-critical app?

Yes, if access and documentation are set up properly and the developer has worked on systems where mistakes cost money. I have built money-moving and invoicing workflows that must never run twice, so I treat safety, testing and rollback as part of every task.
