Perfex CRM customization and custom module development

I do Perfex CRM customization the way the platform was designed to be extended: in modules, hooks and override files, never by editing core code that the next update overwrites. Perfex is built on CodeIgniter 3, which I work with in production, so I can add the features your business needs, fix what a previous developer broke, and keep your CRM upgradeable. Typical work is custom modules, GST invoice formats, WhatsApp and payment integrations, and repairs after a Perfex or PHP upgrade.

Perfex CRM customization: what I do and who it is for

Perfex CRM is a self-hosted PHP application sold on CodeCanyon, used by agencies, service businesses and small companies for customers, leads, projects, invoices, estimates, contracts and support tickets. It covers a lot out of the box. Perfex CRM customization is about closing the gap between how Perfex works by default and how your business actually works: an approval step on estimates, a field your industry needs on every invoice, a report your accountant asks for each month, or a notification on the channel your customers actually read.

I work with three kinds of clients. Businesses running Perfex that want it to fit their process. Agencies and resellers who install Perfex for their own clients and need a dependable Perfex CRM developer for the custom parts. And owners whose CRM was customized by editing core files, and who now cannot update without losing everything.

Perfex is not always the answer. If your workflow needs inventory, manufacturing or multi-company accounting at its core, bending Perfex that far costs more than it saves, and a custom ERP build is the honest recommendation, and a custom CRM is the better fit when your selling process is what Perfex cannot model. I will tell you which side of that line you are on after seeing the workflow.

Upgrade-safe Perfex customization: modules and hooks, not core edits

The most common Perfex problem is not a missing feature. It is a CRM that cannot be updated, because someone changed controllers, models or views directly inside the application folder. The next update replaces those files, and the changes either vanish or break the system. Perfex provides proper extension points so this never has to happen, and I use them:

  • Modules. Custom features live in their own folder under modules, with an init file of the same name and a Module Name header, so you can activate, deactivate or remove them from the admin area.
  • Activation hooks. register_activation_hook creates the module's tables and options when it is switched on, with db_prefix() so it works whatever table prefix your install uses.
  • Action and filter hooks. hooks()->add_action and hooks()->add_filter run code when Perfex creates an invoice, records a payment or builds a menu, and change data on its way through, without touching core files.
  • Module helpers. register_language_files for translations, register_cron_task for scheduled work after Perfex's own cron, and register_payment_gateway for new gateways.
  • Override files. PDF templates such as the invoice PDF are customized in my_ prefixed copies like my_invoicepdf.php, small tweaks go in application/helpers/my_functions_helper.php, and styling goes in the custom CSS file Perfex loads outside core.
  • Prefixed names. Every function, class and option name carries the module prefix, so nothing collides with core code or with other modules you buy.

Perfex CRM module development: features and integrations

A Perfex CRM custom module can add almost anything that fits the CRM's data: new screens in the admin area, new tabs on a customer or project, staff permissions, settings, emails with merge fields, scheduled tasks and its own database tables. Examples of the kind of modules businesses ask for:

  • Approval workflows on estimates or expenses before they reach the customer or the books
  • Job cards or field service visits linked to customers, with photos and sign-off
  • Commission tracking for sales staff based on paid invoices
  • Excel import tools for leads, items or opening balances, with validation, or scheduled data sync scripts when the data lives in another system
  • Reports and dashboard widgets your team actually uses, exportable to Excel or PDF
  • Perfex CRM WhatsApp integration through the WhatsApp Business Platform or a provider's API: approved message templates sent when an invoice is created, a payment is due or a ticket is answered
  • Payment gateways that Perfex does not ship, such as Razorpay, PayU or Cashfree, added as gateway modules with server-side verification; see my payment gateway integration work
  • Perfex CRM API integration with your website forms, WooCommerce, accounting software or Tally. Perfex has no full REST API in core, so this uses a REST API module or custom endpoints inside your own module

Perfex CRM GST invoice setup for Indian businesses

Out of the box, Perfex handles taxes as named rates on each item, which is not enough for a proper Perfex CRM GST invoice. Indian invoices need CGST and SGST for sales within your state and IGST for sales to other states, chosen by place of supply. They need HSN or SAC codes per item, GSTIN for you and your customer, a tax summary by rate, and the total in words in rupees.

I build this as a module plus a PDF override: HSN/SAC and GSTIN stored in custom fields, the correct tax split worked out from the customer's state, and a GST-format invoice PDF. Export invoices, supplied under LUT or with IGST paid, need their own wording and fields, and that is a case I have handled before in a Laravel ERP. If your business falls under e-invoicing, the IRN and QR code come from the government's invoice registration portal, usually through a GST Suvidha Provider's API, and that integration can be built into the same module. Perfex can also be connected to Tally through Tally integration, so invoices raised in Perfex reach your accountant's books without retyping.

Why hire a Perfex CRM developer who works in CodeIgniter

When you hire Perfex CRM developer help from a marketplace, you often get someone who knows the admin screens but not the framework underneath. I work in CodeIgniter 3 and PHP 8 in production, so I read Perfex's controllers, models, libraries and hooks as code I know, not as a black box. I have written about the process in building a Perfex CRM custom module, and it is the same framework knowledge behind my CodeIgniter development work.

That matters most after upgrades. Recent Perfex versions require PHP 8.1 or later, and the 3.3 release changed session handling to support PHP 8.4. Older third-party modules written for PHP 7 often break on these versions with deprecated dynamic properties, changed function signatures and stricter type handling. I fix those properly instead of hiding the errors. The same goes for a fresh Perfex CRM installation: server requirements, file permissions, the cron job that recurring invoices and reminders depend on, SMTP, and backups.

You work directly with me, the engineer writing the module, not a sales contact. I am based in India, which helps with GST and Indian payment and messaging providers, and I work remotely with clients in different time zones; we agree on update times at the start.

What affects the cost of Perfex CRM customization

A fixed quote follows a short call or a written brief, ideally with screenshots of what you want changed. The main drivers are:

  • Whether the change fits a hook or override, or needs a full module with its own tables and screens
  • How many Perfex areas it touches: invoices only, or invoices, projects, the customer portal and emails
  • Third-party integrations, which depend on the other system's API and account approvals
  • The state of the install: core edits that must be moved into modules first add work up front
  • Your Perfex and PHP versions, and whether an upgrade should happen before new work

How the work runs

  1. Audit your install

I check your Perfex and PHP versions, installed modules and server, and compare core files against a clean copy of the same version to find any direct edits.

  2. Agree the spec

We write down screens, fields, permissions and rules in plain language, with screenshots or rough sketches, so the quote and the result match what you pictured.

  3. Build on a staging copy

All work happens on a copy of your CRM with your real configuration, never on the live system. You test there and give feedback.

  4. Test against updates

Before delivery I test the module on your current version and, where available, the latest Perfex release, so you know the next update is safe.

  5. Deploy and hand over

The module goes live as a normal Perfex module you can activate or deactivate. You get the source code and short notes on what it does and where.

Questions

  • Will my customization survive Perfex updates?

Yes, when it is built as a module with hooks and override files, which is how I build it. Updates replace core files, so anything edited inside core is lost. Very large Perfex releases can still change a hook or a view, which is why I test against new versions.

  • Can you build a custom module for my business process?

Usually, yes. If the process fits Perfex's customers, projects, invoices or tickets, a custom module can add the screens, fields, permissions and automation it needs. If it needs things Perfex does not model at all, I will say so and suggest a better route.

  • Can Perfex CRM generate GST invoices with HSN/SAC codes?

Yes, with a small module and a custom invoice PDF. I add HSN/SAC codes and GSTIN fields, split tax into CGST and SGST or IGST by place of supply, and print a GST-format invoice with the total in words.

  • Can you integrate WhatsApp with Perfex CRM?

Yes. Invoice links, payment reminders and ticket updates can be sent as approved WhatsApp templates through the WhatsApp Business Platform or a provider you already use, triggered by Perfex hooks.

  • Can you fix errors after a Perfex or PHP upgrade?

Yes, this is common work. Errors after an upgrade usually come from core edits that were overwritten or from older modules that are not compatible with PHP 8.1 and later. I find the cause in the logs and fix the code rather than hiding warnings.

  • Do you offer Perfex CRM installation on my server?

Yes, on cPanel hosting or a Linux VPS: requirements check, installation, SSL, SMTP, the cron job, file permissions and backups. You provide your own Perfex license from CodeCanyon.

  • How much does Perfex CRM customization cost?

It depends on whether the change is a hook-level tweak or a full module, how many areas it touches and which integrations are involved. I send a fixed quote after a short call or a written brief with screenshots.

  • Do I own the module code?

Yes. You get the full source of every custom module, and it stays installed and working in your Perfex. You are free to have another developer maintain it later.
